No garage..

Postby buzzy » Thu Oct 20, 2016 4:37 pm

To save me ringing every insurance company I can Google (cos it's getting tedious!) has anyone on here managed to insure a quad that's NOT kept in a garage..?

I tick all the other boxes age, experience, location etc but I want to keep the quad in a locked compound with ground anchor/Oxford lock, 24hr CCTV etc etc but they want it in a garage. Situation is I have a brand new X8 facelift which was ordered in and registered for me by my local dealer and he ain't gonna be best pleased when tell him I don't want it but it's looking that way lol

I have a mate that built a garage out of fence panels just big enough for his quad, no more room not even spare wheels. Just to satisfy the demands of the insurance company.

Yeh funnily enough I just discussed doing that with a bloke at a certain well known insurance specialist, he warned me they may demand it to be a brick enclosure though..

Assume you mean for fully comp as you don't need that for third party only. I'm sure MCE will do it BUT at the cost of the they don't offer pillion cover and if you even MENTION mud, off road, or Greenlanes they all but hang up

Would be no good to me then it was to be my 2-up laning machine lol - yes I want theft cover.

I had assumed that as with all my previous (60+?) vehicles since 1984 insurance would be a mere formality, this is not so. I will spend another couple of days thinking about it then I'll probably just go buy a big trail bike - I don't want to let the dealer down he's all ready to deliver it he's just waiting for a cover note and payment but if I can't get insurance sod it..

Yup without a garage for it you're stuffed for pillion insurance outright. Tell you this from begrudgingly personal experience.

Correct. So in the end I had to agree to put up a metal shed for it - I was going to build a workshop anyway next summer so I'll just get the shell up now and put the quad in it.

Insurance cost me £279 inc legal & breakdown so not toooo bad I suppose given I have no bike NCB to use on it.
