TRX250 gearchange shaft

Postby mikejd » Mon May 15, 2017 11:41 am

Hi guys, this is my first post, looking for information.

I have a TRX250TM6 2WD, and I'm having problems with the gear change. I have had it for a couple of years but recently the gear changing began to be difficult and eventually was impossible. I checked the lever and shaft and splines on both had worn. I thought I would try fitting a new lever to see if it would sort it but this has now worn.

I have tried the local quad shop and they advise that it is not worth repairing. They suggested the only thing to try would be to weld the lever on. The bike is running well apart from this and I can't really afford to scrap and replace. Can anyone suggest any other possibilities for repair?

I'm sure there is something that could be done that's not as drastic as welding it on :icon_scratch: get some pictures of it up here. just a thought could it be shimmed ?

I'm not sure how it could be shimmed - the lever can still be a tight fit on some of the splines but then slips round in use. I will try to get some images up today. Thanks.

I got this pic of another forum. Drill it then hammer the right diameter metal plug in & tighten it up.

You're welcome.
I know this is stating the obvious but make sure your gear lever is in the right place before you start drilling. :dontknow:
