smc 250 non starter

Postby craigzilla » Sat Jan 06, 2018 6:58 pm

another day wasted. having not used all Christmas I decided today to get it started ready for a outing onit tomorrow. would not start. this happened when I last used it in the snow. it did the same but I went and got new sparkplugs cr8hs n it fired first time but when I was starting it up that day it was like everytime I started up it would take longer to start, but would always start eventually. when it didn't fire today I check to see for spark which was weak so removed front fairing just to check all the wires and plugs, I use this off road n its get battered. everything was ok so I removed the spark plugs. the plugs smelt of petrol before refitting I cleaned with wire brush. went to start n fired up perfect. left it running for about 10mins then cut it out and refitted the front fairing. I then went to start but again refused to fire :BangHead: removed plugs and cleaned with wire brush again but nothing. :angry4: I know all wires are good so where would you start? I thought about ignition coils but both plugs had about the same weak spark.

hi mate you again thanks for hand out again :icon_thumleft: checked air filter, dry as a bone. spark gaps are 0.7 is there any way I can check spark plugs leads other than holding spark plug init and looking at spark? I have a multimeter and was going to check both sides and hopefully if there was a weaker side id trace fault that way but have no idea what setting the multimeter should be on or what the correct reading should be. :dontknow:

I would check all earths. Clean and grease them all. Check the CDi earth etc.

Then check spark again.
